The Watchdog version, PowerUSB, can be used to monitor the attached computer to be up and functioning all the time. The servers and other remote computers need to have 100% uptime. When remote computers hang up, detecting and sending support staff to reset these computers could be expensive task. The PowerUSB does this function automatically by power recycling the attached computer. As shown in the below outline, the computer is connected to one of the controlled outlets. The computer will be sending a periodic heartbeat to the PowerUSB through one of the applications running in the background. When the computer hangs-up, it stops sending heartbeat to PowerUSB. At this time, the PowerUSB switch off the computer power for a brief period and switches it on again. With this power recycle, the attached computer reboots and goes back to normal operation.
